Water main relocation, Toowong stage four and completion
Transcity is in the final stages of work required to relocate a water main located under the Western Freeway at Toowong. The water main relocation is required to enable the excavation of Legacy Way’s entrance and exit lanes.
Transcity will connect the new pipe to the existing water network in mid-June. This work will be undertaken over one continuous weekend shift from 8pm Friday 15 June to 8pm Sunday 17 June.
What to expect
- Noise from the use of heavy machinery and equipment.
- Use of lighting towers, flashing lights and white noise
- reversing beepers for the safety of on-site workers.
- Cyclists may experience very short delays on the Centenary Bikeway during this activity.
- A single lane closure on the Western Freeway (westbound).
- Water supply is not expected to be affected by this work.
Access along the Centenary Bikeway will be maintained at all times, however, it will operate under a stop/go arrangement for the safety of path users. Traffic control officers and directional signage will be in place to assist motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Following the completion of this work in mid-June, Transcity will rehabilitate the work area with native plants and seeds.
This work may be postponed due to wet weather and unforeseen circumstances and additional night work may be required.

About Legacy Way
Legacy Way is a 4.6km road tunnel that will connect the Western Freeway at Toowong with the Inner City Bypass (ICB) at Kelvin Grove. It will provide an alternative route to local roads for traffic leaving the Western Freeway and travelling to and from the ICB. When it opens, Legacy Way will reduce, by up to 44%, the peak hour travel time of journeys from the Centenary Bridge to the ICB.
